Mary Agnes Kramer and Mathias Schneider - Census Reports

The 1880 Federal census lists children as John age 6 born Bohemia (would be son of Mathias and Katherine), George age 2 born Bohemia and Minnie age 1 born Nebraska.

The 1900 Federal census records that Mary had 7 children-6 were living and lists children as Herman born May 1878 Nebraska age 22, Mary born Oct 1882 Nebraska age 19, Francisca born May 1885 Nebraska age 15, Frank born May 1889 Nebraska age 11, Rudolf born Mar 1893 Nebraska age 7, Rosa born Mar 1897 Nebraska age 3. It is known that there was one infant daughter born between Mary and Francisca. This would account for the 7 chldren born to Mary Schneider.

Although the 1880 census records George as born in Bohemia Mathias is known to have immigrated to America arriving April 1877. That being true a child age 2 (born ca 1878) would not have been born in Bohemia.

At first glance the 1900 census seems to record May 1875 as the date of the birth of Herman. However, his age is recorded as 22 (1900-22=1878). On closer examination what appears to be a "5" seems to have an upstroke that would make it an "8".(May 1878)

. . .In October 1947, the ceiling of the Church was insulated. It seemed that too much heat was being lost somewhere. This insulating material was purchased from Montgomery Ward and was spread above the entire ceiling of the Church and the living quarters. Helping Father Charles on the job were Tom Howshar, George Hytrek, John Erschabek and the two sons of Tom Howshar.

. . .In February 1953, a new loudspeaker was installed in St. Anthony’s Church. Father Charles had been troubled with laryngitis for some time and the Doctor sternly advised a speaking aid. It was installed in order to help the priest with his sermons. Also, at this same time, Mr. & Mrs. John Erschabek celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with the renewal of their marriage vows with a High Mass in the Church. Mr. & Mrs. Charles G. Zengel were their attendants.

Funeral mass of Christian burial for Betty Avaley Erschabek, 78, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at St. Anthony?s Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Cousineau, SJ officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Rest Cemetery. A Wake/Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on May 14, at the church. Betty died at Community Hospital in Torrington on May 10. Memorials may be directed to the Guernsey Rescue Unit. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Colyer Funeral Home and the casket will be open at the Rosary.

Betty was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Lusk, the daughter of Joseph and Pearl (Hayes) Boyles. She grew up in Van Tassell, and received her education in Fort Laramie, graduating from Fort Laramie High School. She married Joseph Erschabek on July 2, 1946 in Hartville. They started a small ranch a mile north of Guernsey, which they operated for 45 years. They moved into Guernsey. Betty enjoyed crafts, camping, fishing, playing cards, making quilts and needlepoint with precision excellence and was a wonderful cook. Family was always number one with her.

Betty is survived by three sons, Dennis Erschabek of Guernsey, Robert Erschabek and his companion Jennifer of Austin, Texas, and Jerry Erschabek and his wife Myrna of Torrington; one brother, Gene Boyles of Torrington; two sisters, Wilda Osborne of Oklahoma, and Twinkle Baars of Wheatland; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Eldon, Reed and Donald; and a sister Mardell.

Pfc. George Francis Schneider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schneider os Stuart, entered the service in March 1942. He went overseas from New York and served in the European Theater for twenty-nine months. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medals, was wounded in action at St. Lo and died August 10, 1944. His body was returned home and buried in the Stuart Cemetery.
